About Amaheree Society

The broadscale objective of the Amaheree is to adequately educate and empower members of the community from underprivileged backgrounds, distinctively those who may have immigrated from less developed countries in the hopes of improved life chances for them and their families. We strive to assist these individuals to integrate into society and access privileges they formerly wouldn't have had the facilities or education to access. We also serve as a sector of community where individuals who would've otherwise felt alone and isolated can mingle with others in similar situations to them and bring them an often much desired sense of belonging and support.

Aims and objectives

Organise activities e.g., sewing, cooking lessons, Batik Tie-Dye, knitting, and organising cultural events where we teach our youths about our cultures.

To provide an array of activities during the holidays for youths, primarily for those who lack the financial stability to afford to travel themselves, our desire is to organise trips within our local amenities to help keep them engaged and out of the street.

We have a high number of our members who have gone through female genital mutilation, we are currently active in creating awareness regarding the risk of undergoing FGM and aim to provide support for those affected. We've assisted victims of FGM who were signed posted to Specialist Midwifery services where they had reconstructive surgery.

To create awareness around child abuse, early, and false marriages and the consequences of carrying out such acts within the British law.

To provide homework classes to disadvantage children and priority will be given to children of parents who are either illiterate or speak very little English.

Amahere society endeavours to raise funds to support the work of the group, raise awareness of the group in the community by creating our own website, promoting the society through social media platforms. We aim to run for as long as the society continues to be beneficial to others

Adult English class

A large majority of our female members have highlighted that they find it difficult to attend most of the ESOL classes due to childcare issues and funding cuts, for this reason, we aim to provide Maths and English classes with the funds raised through fundraising. We also aim to provide volunteers to cater for childcare so that learning will continue to take place.

The Amaheree society revolves around a strong shared vision, our community board members are chosen from the Amaheree Society members. We have regular chats through gatherings, WhatsApp, social media platforms and organised meetings.

The Amaheree Society's aims and values are entirely built upon the requests and desires of its members. No decision is made without consulting the rest of the society beforehand. This allows us to uphold our beliefs in equality and to make sure everyone of our 72 members is benefiting from the society.
